Good morning!  I love you and…

HOLY DAYS

We are in the depths of High Holy days for so many world religious and spiritual traditions.  This is a time when we can touch and express the best within us; we become the blessings of and for this world.  And so I would like to leave you with my favourite prayer of all time.  May it bless you.

May you know peace.  May you be at peace.  May you be peace.

Peace.  And so, so much love.

Tabitha

ps.  It’s been a joy sending these out to you!  xo

The Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

POETRY

I can’t imagine life without poetry.  I call them word-songs.  Poems are a way to take a snapshot of Life, to attempt to frame it within words in the hopes of making you feel beyond your everyday feelings.  They are like the markers along the path of pilgrimage, pointing the way, nudging you along.  Poetry, good poetry, helps you grow, transform, evolve.  Can we ever mention “good poetry” without including something from one of the Masters herself, Mary Oliver?  I know I can’t.  Here is one of her most beloved classics.  I hope you enjoy.

May you have a beautiful day!

Love,

Tabitha

WILD GEESE

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

LOVE

Have you ever met someone and instantly fallen in love with them?  I don’t mean only romantic love although that counts too.  I’m talking pure, boundaryless love.  You don’t know what it is about that person but you light up when you talk about them.  Your insides sorta squeal in delight at the mere thought of them.  You could just squeeeeeeeeeze them when you see them.  You.  Just.  Love them.  You know that kind of love?

I believe someone feels that way about you.  😉

Have a most gorgeous day!

Love,

Tabitha

TIME

It’s cold.  It’s dark.  You’ve been sleeping soundly but you are now beginning to stir.  You’re absolutely sure you have short minutes before the alarm rudely goes off so you’re afraid to look at the time.  Finally you can’t take it anymore.  What’s the bad news?

No bad news.  No bad news?

Hours.  You have hours before the alarm goes off.  Long, expansive, delicious hours.  So you hunker down, draw the covers in tighter, and with a sigh and a smile, drop your weight even further into the bed.

Yeah.  Like that.

May you find exquisite pools of expanded time throughout your day.  May they help you smile and stretch outward.  Expand. E x p a n d! 🙂

Much love,

Tabitha

PAUSE

Take a moment and stop everything.  Become still.  Silence any external noise within your control.  Close your eyes if you feel safe doing so, or choose a spot to focus on so your eyes can rest.  Then notice that you’re breathing.  All along you’ve been breathing.  Watch as you take a breath in.  Watch as you release the breath.  No controlling.  Just watching.

Then find the pause.

Watch as you take a breath in and observe the slight pause after inhale.  Everything stops for a moment.  You’re in a holding pattern.  You’re tenderly holding precious life energy within you.  Then watch as you let go and find the pause after exhale.  Here there is a pool of emptiness, exquisite space where we can stretch out and float.

Breathe in.  PAUSE and stay with the pause in a relaxed way.  Breathe out.  PAUSE and float.  Never pushing past what is comfortable.  Stay with this for 3 breaths….or 10….or 20.  And then move on.

Throughout the day, find the pause.  Pause in movement.  Pause in distraction.  Pause in speech and needless noise.  Pause in the breath.

P A U S E

And have a fantastic day.

I love you!

Tabitha

THE LETTING GO

My goddaughter, when she was a baby, suffered terribly with colic.  At the time I was living with her and her parents.  We would take shifts holding the baby, trying to console her.  She would just scream and scream for hours.  This one day was particularly rough and my friend just couldn’t take it anymore.  I took the baby from her arms and sent her upstairs to rest while K. and I went outside into the fresh summer air.  The screams were piercing and there was no doubt they would carry for miles down the country road and through the fields.  She was suffering and she was at war with her suffering.  She was a tiny ball of angry pain and she was going to tell everyone all about it.  I told her to go for it.  “Go ahead, K.  Let everyone know how you feel.  Give it everything you’ve got.”  And she did.

Eventually…..eventually, something happened.  Holding her in my arms, I could feel something beginning to shift.  Her body started to soften.  Her screams quietened down to tiny hiccups.  Something in K. let go and for a short time there was peace.

It tends to work that way, the letting go.  We think it’s something we’re supposed to do when really I think it’s something that happens to us.  At some point we grow tired of the burden, of the conflict, of the suffering and pain and we say, “Enough.”  Not in an angry way.  Not like we’re throwing something down.  It’s more like a deep, long exhale.  eeeeenoughhhhhhhhhh………..And off it goes.  It’s mysterious and awesome.

May you be liberated from all that has become too cumbersome to bear.  May the letting go happen for you over and over and over again until you’re soft and open and breathing fully. May you be FREE!

Know that you’re loved!

Tabitha

THE SPARK

The human heart runs on electrical impulse.  At some point around 5 weeks in utero, the primitive heart begins to beat and keeps going for an entire lifetime.

What puts that spark there?

Love.  You!
