I follow a personal trainer on YouTube. (You can find her here: https://www.youtube.com/@FitnesswithPJ) Gotta exercise somehow, right? I guess many people ask her how to stay motivated. Her response was unique and interesting. She said, basically, motivation really won’t get you anywhere. Most people can find the gas to get started but it won’t sustain you. What sustains you is MOMENTUM.

That really resonated with me. It’s what I experience and it’s certainly what I have seen over the years of teaching. One day you decide, nah, I just don’t feel like it. That makes the next time easier to walk away. And so on. It’s the snowball effect. It will compound itself until one day, months later, you’re nowhere near where you were or where you wanted to be.

Yes, there are times when sustained practice has to change its form. When you’re desperately ill or facing any number of other emergencies, sitting and meditating or doing an asana practice isn’t where your energy needs to be. But if you’re not in that situation? Don’t lose momentum, lovelies. Touch your practice. Touch what keeps you sane. Roll out your mat. Put on soft music. Close the door to your bathroom and take 3 deep breaths. Go to church. Pray. Whatever you do to hold onto sanity, do it. Touch it. Hold it. Don’t lose momentum. It’s so hard to get back up again once you’ve stopped.

This has been your public service announcement for the day.

And I love you. 😉
